Dog friendly delights at North Lakes Hotel and Spa

North Lakes Hotel and Spa, Penrith is an ideal base for walkers being within easy reach of the stunning Lake District not just for National Walking Month in May but all year round.  The hotel, with excellent spa facilities for relaxing after a day of exploring, also puts on a special welcome for four legged hikers, with dog friendly rooms and doggy treats.  What’s more, Ratcher, the hotel’s resident dog, posts the routes of his favourite walks in reception for other canine guests to try during their stay.

With an abundance of stunning scenery and over 900 square miles to discover, the Lakes are a walker’s paradise, from an all-day hike, an adventure to the summit of a high peak or a gentle ramble around a lake. Ratcher’s Walks take in the mountains, lakes and forests within this National Park which provide beautiful landscapes and vistas to explore on foot.

As dog lovers, the hotel takes special care of their four-legged guests who receive a bed, towel, water and food bowls as well as toys and poop bags.  There are also blankets, ball throwers and spare leads as added extras to ensure they enjoy their stay as much as their owners do.  The hotel has thought of everything with the dog friendly rooms on the ground floor with their own entrance for ease of access.

Walking for just under three hours can burn around 1000 calories, so after a day of rambling, FYR (pronounced fire) at North Lakes Hotel and Spa, provides the perfect location for refuelling with a mouth-watering steak that can help replenish those burnt calories and set walkers up for their next trek.

FYR brings a new dining experience to the county with Cumbria’s only open fire grill where chefs prepare delicious meals in the heart of the restaurant providing a theatrical dining experience to remember.  Whether it is sirloin, rib eye, fillet or the FYR signature steak, all are aged for a minimum of 28 days and cooked to the diners’ exact specifications.  The grill menu also features a choice of chicken or fish kebabs.  To complete each dish is a serving of the best goose fat chips a well-deserved treat after clocking up the miles.

Overnight accommodation at The North Lakes Hotel and Spa is from £55 per person (based on two sharing) including breakfast.
